Navy Lodge Rota Spain - HBA has designed hundreds of projects for the federal government over its 42-year history. In some cases, these projects are outside of Oconeus or the contiguous United States. The expansion of Navy Lodge at Naval Base Rota, Spain is our newest opportunity and our first in Spain. Through HBA's IDIQ with NAVFAC LANT, HBA has created a new lodge extension for the Navy Lodge and NEX program.
HBA hired local A/E company G&A Promotores in Rota, Spain to assist with local, regional and national code and building requirements for the project, as well as Spanish translations. Two members of the HBA team (Maxine Baer and Sebastian Ramos) also provided additional translations to our internal team as they are both multilingual. It was a lot! HBA's design team includes hospitality consultants, David L. Wallace & Associates (Dunedin, FL) is also included. DLW helped HBA develop a new suite layout for the property, a site-appropriate design concept, a design that provides connectivity to the existing lodge, and a concept that leaves space for future expansion.

HBA held three design workshops for the project, one to develop the suite layout, one for the construction and layout of the building (both at the HBA office), and then finally to set up with all parties , including basic public works personnel in Rota. Project site and regional requirements.

The end result is a project that will build a new, fully functional four-story, 6,217 SM (66,920 SF), 50 suite lodge. The facility will provide new spaces for check-in, guest lounge, breakfast/catering service, administration, commercial laundry, housekeeping and all necessary support space. Each room will be a two-bedroom suite, consisting of a living room, kitchen with dining area, master bedroom/bathroom, and children's bedroom/bathroom. The Navy Lodge program in Rota welcomes families for extended stays while their housing is arranged. His goal for the new lodge (and resulting design) is to meet the needs of these guests and make this transition as comfortable as possible.
New site amenities include new parking for 74 vehicles, a new playground, several outdoor patios and grilling areas, and extensive landscaping. The tender option will include a swimming pool, paddling pool, pumping station and associated terraces. The project will also construct a pair of new tennis courts and a new basketball court adjacent to the fitness center in another area of the base, followed by the demolition of existing tennis courts at the project site.
Construction is expected to be complete this summer 2019. The entire HBA team is excited to be working with the Navy and NEXCOM to see Rota Navy Lodge completed!
